2008 Web Design and Development Survey

A List Apart has released their "Findings From The Survey For People Who Make Websites 2008".

30,055 readers took part in the survey and they have graciously provided the full statistics data-set for users to perform their own additional analysis here: [3.01 MB .zip csv file].

There is still some trepidation about the economy and its impact on the field - as one would expect.

And as implied in the quote attributed to Mark Twain (but never verified) -  "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics." - it is usually prudent not to extrapolate observations into predictive or causal relationships. However, the analysis of the comparative data between the 2007 survey and the 2008 survey by analysts Alan Brickman and Larry Yu was masterful and informative.

Over 20% of us (both freelancers and corporate employees) have been in the business for more than ten years, make a decent living and are still truly excited by the field.  Good news indeed.
