Javascript
--A scripting language developed by Netscape to enable Web
authors to design interactive sites. Although
it shares many of the features and structures
of the full Java language, it was developed
independently. Javascript can interact with
HTML source code, enabling Web authors to
spice up their sites with dynamic content.
JavaScript is endorsed by a number of software
companies and is an open language that anyone
can use without purchasing a license. Java
applets, servelets, and scripts are used in
shopping carts, interactive forms, stock market
reports and "push" technology (where
information is pushed to you without you requesting
with a button click.) TexasWebDevelopers will

Some web sites use Javascript to the detriment of the users experience:
Java is a wonderful
language that can visually enhance any
web site. But the greatest detriment to
clear, easy-to-use websites can sometimes
be the proliferation of java applets to
the point of annoyance. Examples of non-intrusive
Java Scripts that are now running
include the "Today is..." DateScript
at the top right of the page and the navigation
bar with "My Profile, My In-Box,
View Users and Log Out" that change
colors when the mouse is moved over them.
